August 2011. Several young Ruffs chose Rosa de Catalina García to rest and feed during post-nuptial migration. Tireless. Excessive activity. Fast movements. Trouble-makers. One male bird was filmed while walked and feeding on wetland edge.

BREAK AT HIGH TIDE

November 2010. High tide. Three Grey Plovers rested on the coast, near Salinas del Carmen. Human presence did not matter to birds. Ten meters between the camera and plovers. Wintering plumage. Quiet but suspicious.

SUNSET SURPRISE

April 2008. Almost sunset. A bird came from the reeds while I picked up my birding equipment. A Black-crowned Night Heron. First sighting for Rosa de Catalina García. Birding at sunset can reward you.

THREE MUSKETEERS WINTER

November 2010. After breakfast, two Sandwich Terns tended their feathers at Salinas del Carmen. A third bird joined the rest period during recording. Winter plumage. Very Quiet. Precious. Full belly, happy heart.

A STRANGER AT TARAJALILLO

January 2012. A Glossy Ibis appeared at Tarajalillo. A new bird changes the color of the colony herons. A different bird overnight with Cattle and Little Egrets. Stylish. Moody. Disputes with other herons. New King of the colony.

NEXT BREEDING BIRD?

March 2012. The bird is catalogued as wintering but Cattle Egret is a year of continuos presence at Tarajalillo ponds. The species may be the new breeding bird on the island. A new bird colonization.

JUST ARRIVED?

A Great Black-backed Gull 1st winter sighted at Cañada del Río on november 2008. Rested on beach shore. Very Quiet. Tired?. Several data on december 2008 and January 2009 for the same bird.

EATING GOLDEN GREY MULLET

Seen on December 2009 at Gran Tarajal port area. Several Grey Herons winter on this place each year. This time, a juvenil looked the seawater surface while walking the floating docks. Balancing to catch Golden Grey Mullet alevins.

UPWIND

Several passerines sighted during spring 2008 along insular territory. Excellent migratory passage. Some Spotted Flycatcher filmed while fighting the wind on April 2008.

Ánade rabudo - Northern Pintail - Spießente - Canard pilet

WRONG PLACE

Roberto Cabrera and Guacimara Gil saw a Northern Pintail on February 2010 at Gran Tarajal. I filmed the bird half hour later. Adult. Male. Beautiful. Surprisingly, the bird was on seawater. Some old local fishermen said: “pato africano” (African Duck).
